Reverend Monsignor Gerald T. Ritchie

The Reverend Monsignor Gerald T. Ritchie, 80, died on July 25, 2022 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie.

Msgr. Ritchie was born on April 29, 1942 in Erie, Pennsylvania, the son of Francis E. and Marie E. (Klick) Ritchie. After attending Blessed Sacrament Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High School and Cathedral Preparatory School, all in Erie, he entered Saint Mark Seminary, also in Erie, in 1960. He continued his formation for the priesthood at Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, New York in 1962 and received his BA from nearby St. Bonaventure University, in 1964.

Rosemary Shaffer

Rosemary Shaffer, age 93, formerly of Harborcreek, passed away Friday, June 10, 2022. She was born in Boyers, PA on September 16, 1928, daughter of the late Steve and Anna Slabe.

Rosemary was employed with Sears for 23 years in the Credit Department, retiring in 1986. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church, where she participated in the Diamonds in the Rough Small Faith sharing group for over 30 years. Rosemary was also a member of the Siebenbuerger Club Ladies Auxiliary and was an AARP Volunteer for taxes for more than 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and sewing, including a cathedral window quilt, which is still in the family.

William J. Spring Sr., 67, of Erie, passed away Tuesday April 12, 2022 on his birthday at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Ridgway, PA on April 12, 1955 son of the late William E. and Mary Ann Lyons Spring.

Bill was a graduate of Venango Christian High School Class of 1973 and graduated from Gannon College. He began his career with Quaker State and retired from Pennzoil as a sales manager. He was an active Curillesta, an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Harborcreek and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill spent many years coaching soccer with his sons and was a mentor to many young soccer players.

Peter David Jacquel, age 35, of Erie, passed away peacefully, at his parents’ home, on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, after an extended illness. He was born in Pusan, South Korea on October 1, 1986, son of Deacon David E. and Peggy S. (Hopkins) Jacquel of North East.

Peter was a 2005 graduate of Seneca High School and a graduate of Penn State University, The Behrend College. He was previously employed by Erie Insurance as an actuarial specialist. Peter was raised Roman Catholic and had attended the family parish, Our Lady of Mercy Church.

Richard George (Dick) Wilhelm, age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, surrounded by family after a brief but hard-fought battle with ALS. He was a lifelong resident of Erie, born on May 2, 1940, son of the late Walter and Catherine (Gorecki) Wilhelm.

Richard was a 1958 graduate of East High School and a veteran of the US Army. While serving in Germany, he met his best friend and the love of his life, Erika (Weber) Wilhelm. They cherished 60 years of marriage together, raising five children.

Dorothy was a homemaker and enjoyed birdwatching and flowers. She loved babysitting her grandchildren as they were growing up and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church.

Gerald J. Stauffer, age 73, of Harborcreek, was lovingly surrounded by his family when he passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022. He was born in St. Marys, PA on July 8, 1948, son of the late Joseph and Dorothy Stauffer.

Gerry was a graduate of the Kane Area High School. He then served in the US Army with the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam War, where he was a Platoon Sgt and recipient of several medals.
